POMONA, Calif. – Locked in a tie for sixth place in the
conference standings, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team will continue to battle for a playoff spot this week with a pair of road matches.
With four regular season games remaining, the Broncos are 5-5-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). This week, CPP plays at fourth-place Cal State L.A. on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and then against eighth-place Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Toros are just one point behind the Broncos in the CCAA standings.
CPP practiced through the bye week but have not played in competition since the 2-1 home loss to Cal State East Bay on Oct. 9. The Broncos' records have been balanced between home and away, going 2-2-2 at Kellogg Field and 3-3-0 on the road.
On the conference leaderboard, CPP ranks at No. 1 in corner kicks. The Broncos will look to capitalize on those opportunities as the offense has generated 12 goals in 12 games so far this season. Eight different players have scored for CPP, including four goals from
Sydney Yates and two goals by
Hailey James. Each of those Broncos has a pair of game-winning scores.
CPP's final week before playoffs will be at Kellogg Field with the Oct. 27 kickoff of 12:30 p.m. against Cal State San Marcos and the Oct. 29 matchup with first-place UC San Diego at 11:30 a.m.
There will be several promotions at Kellogg Field in that final week of October. On Oct. 27, free phone wallets will be distributed to the first 80 CPP students. Then on Oct. 29, free mini staplers will be given to the first 75 CPP students.
Looking Ahead
The CCAA Tournament will follow a six-team, single-elimination format. First-round matches between the No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 seeds will be played at campus sites on Tuesday, Nov. 1 with the top two teams earning first-round byes. The winners of the first-round matches will face the top two men's seeds and top two women's seeds at Warrior Stadium in the semifinal round on Friday, Nov. 4. The CCAA Tournament final will be played on Sunday, Nov. 6.
The Regional Picture

The 48-team field will be revealed during NCAA.com selection show that will air on Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. Pacific. The West Region conferences consist of the CCAA, PacWest and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
