@cppmsoccer Wins 4-0, Moves Into Tie for 1st

POMONA, Calif. – In a span of two minutes and 18 seconds during the first half, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team rallied for three goals to cruise to a 4-0 home victory over Cal State San Marcos on Thursday.

The result moves the Broncos into a tie for first place in the conference standings with UC San Diego. CPP holds marks of 12-3-2 overall and 8-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The loss drops San Marcos to 5-5-4 overall and 4-3-4 through league play.

The Broncos broke through for their first score at the 31:18 mark. Hussein Heidari passed it up to Sergi Monso, who slid it to the right side. Jose Garcia knocked a one-timer shot into the left side of the net to put CPP ahead 1-0.

Just 67 seconds later, Luis Najera Jr. put a rebound chance into the back of the net after Heidari took the initial attempt from about 12 yards out.

To complete the flurry of goals for the Broncos, Monso passed it up to Perez and then he crossed a pass to the center of the box. Jordan Jackmon sprinted in and tapped the ball in from close range to extend the CPP lead to 3-0.

The Broncos carried that advantage into halftime and added their fourth goal at the 86-minute mark. Garcia sent a corner kick into the box and Eduard Lucas sent a header inside the near post to tack on another score for the home squad.

For Garcia, Jackmon and Lucas, the goals today marked the first of their CPP careers.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday with a 2 p.m. matchup against nationally-ranked UC San Diego. Prior to the match, CPP will honor its senior class in a ceremony.
