POMONA, Calif. - In spite of an efficient offensive performance from
Alexandra Gresham, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team dropped a 3-0 result on Saturday to Cal State San Marcos.
In the fourth and final match of the homestand, the Broncos posted an attack percentage of .100 while Gresham led the way with a .409 mark to go along with 10 kills. Overall, the loss drops CPP to 5-16.
Up next for the Broncos will be their final road trip of the year with a Friday match at Cal State East Bay and a Saturday contest at Cal State Monterey Bay. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
CPP trailed 8-5 early in the first frame but
Andrea Bosnic snapped the Cougars' run with a kill and then Gresham followed with a service ace. CSUSM built up momentum later in the set though, wrapping it up with a 6-0 run for the 25-15 result.
In similar fashion, the Broncos trailed 14-11 through the second frame but used a 3-0 run to even the score. That stretch of points started with a kill from
Deanna Blaine. The Cougars earned a 7-0 run to widen the gap and finished the set with a 25-19 score.
Alina Smith collected a kill to give the home team a 4-1 lead early in the third frame. CSUSM stole the lead but then a
Kristen Hamlin kill moved the score into an 11-11 tie. The Cougars once again found the momentum late, taking another 25-19 result to conclude the 3-0 victory.
Smith finished with 26 assists to lead the Broncos' setters while
Samantha Figueroa tallied a team-high 20 digs to help the defensive effort.
