POMONA, Calif. - After going 2-1-1 through its final four matches, the fourth-seeded Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team looks to build even more momentum this week as the Broncos will host fifth-seeded Stanislaus State on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament.
CPP is making its 11th appearance in the conference tournament, including the fourth in the last five years. First-year head coach
Jay Mason has led the Broncos to a 7-6-3 overall record with a 6-4-2 mark through the CCAA regular season. Following the 4:30 p.m. women's soccer game on Tuesday, the Broncos' men's soccer squad will host Cal State LA at 7 p.m.
With the semifinal and final rounds of the CCAA Tournament to be held this weekend in Turlock, the winner of Tuesday's matchup will take on top-seeded UC San Diego on Friday at 7 p.m. The Broncos battled the Tritons tough this past Friday, falling 2-1 after a second-half comeback from UCSD.
Tori Tappero scored CPP's lone goal after she was one of four seniors to be honored prior to the game.
The Broncos have played Tuesday's opponent - Stanislaus State - once this season. CPP topped the Warriors on Oct. 7 by a 2-1 score at Kellogg Field. In that game, the two squads went scoreless through the first 56 minutes.
Sydney Yates converted on a penalty kick for the Broncos and then Jade Poon knocked in a PK for the Warriors just three minutes later. Finally,
Natalie Di Angelo tallied the game winner in the 84th minute as the CPP defense kept the 2-1 advantage intact.
