Broncos Fall 1-0 to Stanislaus in 1st Round

POMONA, Calif. - Making its 11th all-time appearance in the conference tournament, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 home loss to Stanislaus State.

The Broncos' season ends with an overall mark of 7-7-3 after CPP completed the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) campaign with a 6-4-2. WIth the result on Tuesday at Kellogg Field, the Warriors advance into the CCAA Tournament semifinal round on Friday.

The CPP offense put plenty of pressure on Stanislaus in the early portion of Tuesday's match. The Broncos outshot the Warriors 6-0 through the first 24 minutes but couldn't capitalize on the opportunities.

The two squads went scoreless through the first 69 minutes until Gabriela Vargas put Stanislaus on the board at the 69:59 mark. With assists from Selia Torres and Kirsten Coleman, Vargas knocked a shot past CPP diving goalkeeper Ricki Ives to put the visitors ahead 1-0.

The final shot for the Broncos came in the 83rd minute but Sommer Larrabee's attempt was stopped by the Warriors' goalie Haley Crook. Through the 90 minutes of action, CPP totaled 11 shots while Stanislaus collected eight. Each squad produced three corner kick opportunities.

Despite the tough result, CPP put together a memorable season under the leadership of first-year head coach Jay Mason. On Tuesday, seniors Hailey JamesShavonn JohnsonLauren Miller and Tori Tappero played their final match as Broncos.
