POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team starts its season this week with a pair of games against PacWest opponents.
As part of a two-day CCAA/PacWest Challenge to be held in La Jolla, the Broncos will take on Azusa Pacific on Friday and Dixie State on Saturday. Both games will start at 5:30 p.m.
Through the past week, CPP picked up a pair of exhibition wins after topping CETYS last Friday and then defeating Chapman on Monday. Sophomore guard
Jordan Ogundiran proved to be a standout in those two contests, averaging 12 points.

Chris Sullivan added 11 points with three steals.
Friday's opponent – APU – went 23-9 last year while reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This season, the Cougars have started 1-2 through early action at the Division II Tipoff Classic in Orange last weekend. The Broncos and Cougars most recently battled on Nov. 14, 2015 when CPP topped APU 79-72 in Azuza.
The Broncos' opponent on Saturday – Dixie State – reached the 2016 PacWest Tournament before falling in the first round to Cal Baptist. The Trailblazers ended up with an 18-9 record last year. CPP and Dixie State last met in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament when the Broncos won 62-60.
CPP has been featured at No. 4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) preseason coaches' poll. Last year, the Broncos finished 22-8 while reaching the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-consecutive year.
