LA JOLLA, Calif. – Led by a 24-point showing from
Jordan Ogundiran and a 21-point performance by
Jeremy Dennis, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team defeated Dixie State on Saturday night 76-66 at RIMAC Arena. At the conclusion of the weekend, Dennis was selected to the CCAA/PacWest Challenge All-Tournament Team.
With the Broncos wrapping up the CCAA/PacWest Challenge with a 1-1 record, they'll now shift their focus to the Saturday, Nov. 19 road game at Cal Baptist.
In addition to Ogundiran and Dennis providing the offensive highlights on Saturday,
Daylan Lawrence joined those two teammates in double figures as he collected 15 points and added six boards. Ogundiran and Dennis also led CPP in the rebounding category, grabbing seven boards apiece.
The Broncos jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in the opening half as
Chris Sullivan knocked down a jumper on the first CPP possession and then Ogundiran knocked down a three-pointer on the next trip down the floor.
Although the Broncos kept a double-digit lead for the majority of the first half, Dixie State played well toward the end of the period and managed to cut the gap to 40-37 with a last-second triple.
The Trailblazers took a lead early in the second half but CPP rattled off a 14-3 run. That stretch of points featured two three-pointers from Dennis and another two from Lawrence. The Broncos performed well enough at the free-throw line – 70.4 percent in the game – to keep Dixie from closing the gap late in the contest.
CPP also won the turnover battle, committing just 14 while forcing 19 from the Trailblazers.
