Broncos Dealt 68-50 Defeat at Simon Fraser

BURNABY, B.C. - Despite a 17-point effort from Marshanique Hall, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team couldn't slow down the Simon Fraser offense and dropped a 68-50 result in British Columbia.

Hall went 7-for-11 from the field and Alyssa Benton joined her in double figures with 10 points to along with a team-high six rebounds. SFU ended up with a slight rebounding edge over CPP, 34-32.

The home squad also outshot the Broncos, 48.3 percent to 36.5 percent. The two teams will play again on Saturday with a 12 p.m. tipoff at the same location in Burnaby. CPP owns a 2-3 mark while Simon Fraser boasts a 7-1 record.

Hall started the game with a three-point play, scoring two off a layup and adding a free throw. The Broncos' lead improved to 7-2 but then SFU rallied for an 8-0 run that was capped off by a three-pointer. The home team took a 15-13 advantage into the second quarter.

A pair of free throws by Hagan initiated the second-quarter scoring and tied the game at 15-15. After Simon Fraser took the lead once again, CPP stayed within striking distance and cut the margin to 31-25 heading into halftime.

SFU started the third quarter on a 9-0 run and outscored the Broncos 18-10 in that frame. The two teams played fairly even in the fourth but Simon Fraser managed to wrap up the victory with the 18-point margin.

After Saturday's contest at Simon Fraser, CPP will return home to host UC San Diego on Tuesday to start conference play.
