POMONA, Calif. – Stan Jackson, former Cal Poly Pomona student-athlete, coach, professor and member of the Bronco Sports Hall of Fame, passed away on Friday, December 9. A private memorial was held for the family.
Jackson has a deep history at Cal Poly Pomona, starting as a student athlete from 1957-1960. Jackson was a two-time All-American quarterback in football in the 1957 and 1958 seasons and also participated in baseball and basketball while at CPP.
"His 36 years that he spent in the athletic department at Cal Poly were some of the highlights of his life," said Jackson's daughter Bev. "He died in the same manner in which he lived with grace and dignity with his focus firmly fixed on his three great loves, his God, his family and his beloved mountains."
After his playing career ended, Jackson continued at Cal Poly Pomona as a coach and a professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion.
"He was a phenomenal husband, father, grandfather, coach, teacher and mentor. He will be missed."
Jackson was inducted into the Cal Poly Sports Hall of Fam in 1986 and later retired in June of 1995.
He is survived by his spouse of 61 years Jane Jackson, his 6 children, Bev Jackson, Delores Jackson Peich, Marty Jackson, Devonie Jackson Bourke, Kraig Jackson, Barbi Jackson Bailey, 16 grandkids and 19 great grandchildren.
