CLAREMONT, Calif. – In the season opener at the Collegiate All-Comers Invite, the Cal Poly Pomona Track and Field teams had a fantastic showing. Both the men's and women's teams competed at the event held at Pomona Pitzer College in Claremont.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The Broncos took first-place overall in the 4x100 as
Marcela Desir,
Kendahl Gaines,
Tai Crumsey, and
Sandra Marquez finished with a 48.66 to top fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rivals, UC San Diego.
In the 4x400, the Broncos had two groups running, and CPP placed sixth and eighth. In the women's high jump CPP newcomer
Deirdre Mercado competed and jumped 1.35 m, she also jumped 4.64 m in the long jump. In the pole vault,
Frances Barnes,
Hannah Stueve,
Melissa Chhem, and
Adi Oz jumped for the Broncos. Barnes led the squad with a 3.25m jump to finish tied for sixth overall.
Desir placed fourth overall in the women's 100 meter dash. Desir finished the event with a time of 12.46. In the 200 meter dash she also topped the Broncos' runners with a ninth-place finish.
Sandra Marquez and
Tai Crumsey also competed in the event for the Green and Gold and finished with a 13th and 15th place finish, respectively.
In the Women's 1000 meter run, the Broncos had five runners compete. Leading the way for the CPP squad with a fourth place finish was
Casey Monoszlay. The sophomore finished in 3:03.35. Behind her with a 3:08.04 and 3:08.77, respectively, were
Kalin Tomlinson and
Symone Booker. Rounding out the Broncos runners were
Danielle Foxvog and
Olivia Lowe.
In the One Mile Run, the Broncos' cross country star
Marissa Nickles led the way for CPP with a sixth-place finish and a time of 5:03.94.
Anahi Betart finished later with a 5:22.63 finish for No. 12.
Layla Amiri,
Sydney Vollhardt, and
Ashley Espinoza also ran. The three finished with times of 5:26.64, 5:38.36, and 5:49.34, respectively.
CPP had 12 runners compete in the women's 3000 meter run. Leading the way with a 10:29.63 time and finishing at No. 11 was
Lorraine Fernandez. Just three spots later at 14 was
Calene Morris with a 10:30.58 time. Spots 16-19 were all filled with Broncos.
Geanna Gallegos, Araceli Servin,
Ashli Baddorf, and
Elizabeth Olvera finished in the spots, respectively.
Kimberly Schaefer was the lone Bronco in the triple jump and finished with a 9.77m jump on her fourth and final run through.
CPP won the shot put as
Tiffany Tate and
Nina Pritchett finished first and second overall. Tate's first-place finish was a 13.19m toss. Pritchett secured a 12.64m throw to lock down second place for the Broncos. Pritchett then came in at first-place in the discus with a 42.94m throw and Tate came in at third with a 35.55m finish of her own.
Pritchett finished eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.16m. Tate competed in the javelin throw and secured a 36.94m throw on her first throw and came in at fifth place.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
Rodger Mantor, an All-American last season for the Broncos, reached the NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in the pole vault as he won the event with a jump of 5.10m.
Austin Braunschweiger secured third place in the 100 meter dash as he ran a 10.92.
Anibal Jimenez finished at ninth with an 11.12 time of his own.
Kyle Goodenough and
Andrew Agyemang also competed in the 100 meter. Jimenez led the Green and Gold in the 200 meter with a 22.18 and a sixth place finish. Braunschweiger finished at No. 24 in the 200 and
Gabriel Wirtz and
Chris Uzoma finished with a 23.39 and a 23.67, respectively.
Four Broncos competed in the 1000 meter run and the squad was led by
Darian Ignatius with a 2:33.68. Just behind him was
Tyler Potts, finishing 10th with a 2:34.25.
Chris Hyden and
Michale Hamlin placed at No. 15 and No. 24 in the event.
Eight Broncos competed in the One Mile Run and the top three finishers with a third, fourth, and sevent overall finish were
Ruben Dominguez,
Christian Rodriguez, and
Brandon Ferguson. Dominguez finished with a 4:14.41.
The 3000 meter run saw seven members of the CPP quad compete and the top three finishers were
Michael Gutierrez, Leo Corcoran and
Justin Doyle who finished 13-15. Gutierrez' finish was an 8:44.57 in the 3000.
Jacob Adler and
Nicholas Mannino were the two Broncos who competed in the hurdles. In the 110 hurdles, Adler finished 12 with an 18.73. The 400 hurdles saw Mannino lock down fifth place with a 59.18.
In the 4x400, CPP finished sixth overall as Uzoma, Potts, Ignatius, and Hamlin combined for a 3:29.40. Agyemang competed in the long jump for the CPP team and on his first jump recorded a 5.64m distance. He also finished at No. 10 in the triple jump with a 12.61m distance.
On the men's throws team,
Joaquin Monteiro-Williams recorded a 13.25m toss in the shot put to finish sixth overall. Also competing in the shot put was
Kyle Goodenough who marked a 10.19. Ahmed Abdul-Rahmen and
Hector Alarcon jumped in with Monteiro-Williams and Goodenough to compete in the discus. Abdul-Rahmen earned second place with a 50.95m toss. Alarcon placed eighth with a 39.84 on his first toss.
Alarcon, Monteiro-Williams, and Abdul-Rahmen each competed in the hammer throw as well and Alarcon led the group that time with a 40.13m toss to finish fifth place overall.
Josiah Pekary, a newcomer to the Broncos finished at No. 18 in the javelin with a throw of 39.21m.
