Broncos Top Gators, Now 18-4 on the Season

SAN FRANCISCO – With a 15-point victory over the San Francisco State Gators, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team heads back to Kellogg Arena with another victory under its belt. Saturday's contest in NorCal found the Broncos earning a 55-40 win over the SFSU squad.

Three members of the CPP team reached double-digit points in the showdown. Leading the offense was junior guard Quentin Taylor. The 6-foot-2 Palm Springs native recorded 14 points on a 3-for-8 showing. All three of his shots from the field were three pointers and he added five good shots from the free throw line. Taylor also recorded a block and two steals in the game.

Joining Taylor with 12 and 13 points respectively were Barry Bell and Jordan Faison. Faison led the Broncos with six baskets scored in the contest and he was second on squad with eight rebounds. The Green and Gold's big man also registered three blocks in the contest and a steal.

Bell locked down 12 points while also adding three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. The rebound leader on CPP's squad was Chris Sullivan, the freshman recorded nine defensive rebounds while also sinking five points of his own.

The Broncos now hold a season tally of 18-4, complete with an 11-4 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Drawing the loss in the contest, the Gators now hold a 6-9 conference record en route to their season showing of 12-9.

CPP outshot the hometeam 37.2% to 24.5% and sank 17-of-20 shots from the free throw line while the Gators were only able to sink nine. The nationally-ranked CPP defense pulled down 39 rebounds in the game while the hometeam managed just 27.

The Broncos were in control of the game through the vast majority of it, owning the lead for 79.5% of the contest. As the game went on, the CPP lead grew and the final 15-point advantage was the largest deficit the Gators were chasing.

With the solid defensive showing, CPP was able to post nine second chance points while limiting the SFSU team to a mere two. The Broncos also outscored the San Francisco squad in the paint, securing 16 points.

CPP will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 11 as they host the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters for Faculty Staff Appreciation Night at 7:30 p.m. The Otters currently hold an 8-7 mark in the CCAA while carrying a 10-11 overall record on the season. Their last contest was a 72-68 loss to the Chico State Wildcats.
