@cppwbb Returns to Kellogg For Two Games

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team will return home to host a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents this week. Heading to Kellogg Arena will be both the Otters of Cal State Monterey bay and the Pioneers of Cal State East Bay.

CSUMB will challenge the Broncos on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. start to kick off the Green and Gold's annual Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night game. As they play host, the CPP squad carries an 8-14 overall record thus far on the season complete with a 6-9 mark in conference play.

The Otters have been even with the Green and Gold on the season tally with an 8-14 mark of their own, but have recorded a 4-11 record in the CCAA. They are currently on a two-game skid as they fell to both the Chico State Wildcats and the Warriors of Stanislaus State.

The all-time series between the two squads leans in the Broncos' favor as they have won 15 games to the Otters' nine. Last season saw the Green and Gold secure wins in both contests against the CSUMB team as they first topped the Bay team 78-61 in December, then excelled against them 87-72 nearly two months later.

After hosting the Otters, CPP will turn its sights to Cal State East Bay and the Pioneers. CSUEB is looking to continue on its already stellar season. They have thus far earned a 13-2 mark in CCAA play and share a second-place tie with the UC San Diego Tritons. Overall on the season, the Pioneers have locked down a 19-4 record and are currently on a six game win streak.

Last season saw the East Bay squad win two of the three contests against the Broncos. First the Green and Gold secured the victory with a 76-60 win in early December, but then the Pioneers defeated the Broncos 65-56 in late January and again in the first round of the CCAA Tournament.

All-time, the Broncos do however hold the advantage as they have won 17 of the two squads' 22 meetings. The contest will take place at Kellogg Arena at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday after the Pioneers play the Humboldt State Jacks on Thursday.

Food Drive at CPP
The Cal Poly Pomona Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting a February Food Drive this week to raise awareness to the prevalence of hunger in communities surrounding the 12 institutions in the Broncos' conference (CCAA). Some food banks struggle in February as their supplies are dangerously low following the holidays. Donations of canned food or other non-perishable food can be dropped off between February 9-15 at on-campus offices and also home athletic events.
