Volleyball Drops 3-0 Result to Humboldt Friday

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team dropped a 3-0 result on Friday night to Humboldt State. It marked the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener for both teams.

The result drops CPP's record to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in league play. Humboldt improves to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in CCAA action.

The Jacks limited the Broncos to a -.008 attack percentage and led the blocking category as well, 11-4.

Among the CPP players with five or more kills, Kristen Hamlin and Desi Martin were the two Broncos to post an attack percentage above .230. Hamlin tallied six kills while Martin added five.

CPP jumped out to a 12-9 edge early in the first set but the Jacks finished the frame on a 5-1 run capped off by a double block.

The two teams traded the lead for the majority of the second set but another 5-1 spurt put the Jacks in front 18-11 and the visitors kept a decent margin through the rest of the frame.

The Broncos threatened to extend the match in the third set as CPP rallied from a 24-22 deficit to tie the score at 24-24 after a double block from Deanna Blaine and Alexandra Gresham. HSU tallied the next two points though, wrapping up the 3-0 victory.

The Broncos will return to action Friday, Sept. 23 with a 7 p.m. road match at Cal State L.A. It marks the start of a four-match road swing for CPP. The next home contest for the Broncos will be Saturday, Oct. 8 against Cal State San Bernardino.
