LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team dropped a 3-0 result on Friday at Cal State L.A.
With the result, CPP falls to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Golden Eagles raise their marks to 6-5 overall and 2-1 through league play. The Broncos will return to action Saturday with a 7 p.m. road match at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Desi martin finished as the lone Bronco with double-digit kills on Friday, tallying 10 kills with an attack percentage of .316.
Alexandra Gresham also hit for a high percentage, posting a .375 mark with nine kills. As a team though, the Broncos were outhit .358 to .185 as they couldn't slow down the CSULA offense.
JamieAnn Bero led the way for the Golden Eagles, collecting 13 kills while hitting .650.
CPP opened the first frame with a 19-14 edge but CSULA rallied for five-straight points to even the score. The Broncos snapped the spurt with a kill from
Karah Griffiths but the Golden Eagles finished the set with a 6-2 run to take the opening frame.
That momentum carried into the second set, which opened with a 5-0 lead for the host squad. Although the gap widened to 21-13, CPP didn't back down and pulled to within 22-18 after a Gresham kill. CSULA finished with a 25-19 result.
The largest margin proved to be the third set, which the Golden Eagles captured 25-15 as the final point of the match featured a service ace by CSULA's Kelsey Molnar.
