Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

@cppmsoccer Falls to Simon Fraser Saturday

POMONA, Calif. – In a highly-contested match between two of the West Region's top teams, Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer suffered a 2-0 loss to Simon Fraser on Saturday night at Kellogg Field.

It snapped the Broncos' remarkable undefeated streak at home. Entering Saturday, CPP owned a 19-0-1 record through the past 20 matches at Kellogg Field.

The Broncos will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Cal State L.A. It will serve as a non-conference matchup with CCAA beginning officially on Sept. 23.

Simon Fraser opened the scoring Saturday just a few minutes before halftime. In the 43rd minute, Ryan Dhillon sent a cross into the box and Erik Morden took a sliding left-footed shot from close range that sailed to the right of CPP goalkeeper Jason Trejos.

With just about 30 seconds left to play before the break, Broncos' senior Jesus Tamayo ripped a one-timer shot that curled just over the crossbar and SFU took its 1-0 edge into the intermission.

As the foul count continued to rise, Simon Fraser kept the offensive pressure up and finished with a 12-4 shot advantage over CPP. In the 79th minute, Dhillon made a move past a Broncos' defender in the right corner and then sent a cross into the box.

Another CPP defender headed the ball into the center of the box, where Rahid Rahiem placed a low shot into the left corner of the net to push the visitor's lead to 2-0.

In the final minute, Trejos took a free kick around midfield and the ball caromed off the SFU keeper and into the Broncos' possession. An errant shot sailed over the crossbar and the final scored ended at 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
