Broncos Dealt 3-0 Defeat in Chico Friday

CHICO, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team suffered a 3-0 road loss at Chico State on Friday night.

The Broncos collected nine blocks to the Willdcats' eight but the visiting squad posted a .071 attack percentage during the match as compared to Chico's .133.

CPP will look to bounce back on Saturday when it takes on Stanislaus State at 7 p.m. in Turlock. At this point in the season, the Broncos are 4-9 overall and 0-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Freshman Karah Griffiths turned in a stellar performance for CPP in the blocking category, totaling five to represent her second-highest total so far in 2016. Also in the blocking category Friday, junior Alexandra Gresham also added five of her own.

Meanwhile, libero Samantha Figueroa earned 22 digs and that marks the fifth time this season that she has reached the 20-dig level.

Despite CPP falling by a wide margin in the first set, 25-12, the Broncos kept the scores close in the second and third frames. Chico managed to take the second set 25-22 before wrapping up the third frame 25-23.

Kills from Deanna Blaine and Kyla Washko provided the Broncos' final two points in the second set. Late in the third frame, a Desi Martin kill capped off a 5-0 run for the visitors that gave CPP a 23-20 edge. The Wildcats put together their own 5-0 run though to conclue the 3-0 victory.
