Broncos Collect 2-0 Win on the Road

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team moved one step closer to securing a first-round bye in the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, defeating San Francisco State 2-0 on the road on Friday.

With the win, the Broncos improve to 13-3-0 overall and 9-2-0 in the CCAA.

Sergi Monso started things off for the Broncos in the 25th minute, scoring after a saved shot attempt by Jose Garcia. The goal marked the 18th of the season for Monso who moves to 34 goals scored in his career, leaving him one shy of tying the program record.

With only a few shot attempts, the Broncos made them count, firing four shots on goal out of five attempts while the Gators tallied 12 shots with six landing on target.

Keeper Jason Trejos earned the clean sheet with six saves, recording three in each half.

Dante Medina added the insurance goal for the Broncos in the 52nd minute, collected a pass from Monso from the right side of the field before finishing for his first goal of the season.

CPP will return home next weekend as they host Cal State San Bernardino for senior night on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
