CSUSB Sweeps Broncos to Even Series

SAN BERNARDINO – Looking for a series sweep of Cal State San Bernardino, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team fell short on the road, losing to the Coyotes 3-0 (26-28, 21-25, 16-25) on Saturday night.

With the loss, the Broncos move to 9-11 overall on the year and 5-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

CPP struggled offensively, hitting .098 collectively on the night. Kristen Hamlin and Andrea Bosnic finished with a team-high seven kills each while Jenna Goldsberry added five kills of her own.

In a close first-set battle, the Broncos battled a 23-20 deficit, tying the set 26-26 before a CSUSB kill followed a CPP error gave the Coyotes an early advantage.

Alina Smith tallied 21 assists on the night while Bosnic added a team-high 18 digs and Alexandria Bollier finished with 16 digs.

After falling behind 0-4 in the second set, the Broncos fought back, tying the match at 20-20. CSUSB rattled off a 5-1 run, closing out the set 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Bosnic also led the Broncos with two aces as the team finished with six overall.

The Coyotes secured the sweep in the final set, closing the night on an 8-1 run to avenge a four-set loss at Kellogg Arena earlier in the season that knocked CSUSB out of the AVCA Top 25.

The Broncos return home next weekend as they host Stanislaus State and Chico State starting Friday, Oct. 27th.
