LOS ANGELES – After stunning No. 23 Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team earned their second straight victory, defeating Cal State Los Angeles 3-2 (25-13, 25-27, 25-20, 26-24, and 15-13) on the road Friday.
With the win, the Broncos improve to 8-8 overall on the year and 4-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
CPP made quick work in set one, jumping out to a 10-4 lead over the Golden Eagles before scoring seven of the final 10 points to take the early advantage.
Alina Smith orchestrated the Bronco attack that finished with 55 kills as she tallied a match high 45 assists on the night, her seventh straight game with 20 or more assists.
After dropping set two to the Eagles, CPP rallied back to take the lead in the third as they broke a 19-19 tie with a 6-1 run to go up 2-1 in sets.
Andrea Bosnic collected 17 kills on the night while
Alexandra Gresham and
Jenna Goldsberry had 13 and 11 kills respectively.
Defensively,
Alexandria Bollier tallied 15 digs while Bosnic added 13 and
Samantha Figueroa and Smith each finished with 11 digs.
Tied 11-11 in the final set of the night, the Broncos took advantage of two attacking errors by CSULA and a kill by Gresham to pull ahead 14-11. After two straight points by the Eagles, Gresham secured the win with one final kill.
The Broncos will continue their road trip as they travel to Carson, Calif., for a match with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m.
