POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at home against Humboldt State on Friday afternoon.
The loss moves the Broncos to 8-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic association.
Just over 18 minutes into play, an errant header to clear the ball landed in the box as Humboldt's Alex Jenkins headed the ball towards the left bottom corner of the net to give the Jacks the lead.
"Tough loss today against a well-organized HSU team," said Head Coach
Jay Mason. "We were able to create a number of good scoring opportunities that didn't fall for us today. Bottom line we need to have more urgency and composure in those moments."
The Broncos pressured Humboldt throughout the day, totaling 17 shots with seven on goal compared to only five total shots for the visitors.
For CPP, 11 players tallied at least one shot in the game with
Amanda Duran and
Stephanie Rodriguez leading with three shots each.
"I'm excited to see our team come together for our next challenge on Sunday."
The Broncos will host No. 16 Sonoma State on Sunday, Oct. 8 at Kellogg Field with the start time slated for 11:30 a.m.
