TURLOCK – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team kicked off California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday night, defeating Stanislaus State 62-49 on the road.
Broncos improve to 3-1 overall on the year and 1-0 in the CCAA.
CPP's defense was in full effect on Saturday, holding Stanislaus State to the lowest point total this season at 46. The Broncos held the Warriors to 28 percent from the floor while shooting 44 percent themselves.
Quentin Taylor led the Broncos with a game-high 13 points while also leading his team in rebounds with eight.
Tied 16-16 in the first half, the Broncos pulled away, scoring seven straight points. As the Warriors battled back, a late bucket by
Riley Schaefer gave the Broncos a 25-23 advantage heading into the break.
Jeremey Dennis finished with 10 points and five rebounds while
William Christmas and
Nikhil Peters each added nine points.
The Broncos finished with eight steals while outscoring the Warriors 37-23 in the second half. CPP took their first double-digit lead with just over 11 minutes to play before taking the largest lead, 51-35 with 6:39 on the clock.
Daylan Lawrence added six points while
Jordan Ogundiran tallied four points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena Wednesday, Nov. 22 as they take one Antelope Valley in a nonconference game.
