POMONA – In a breakout game for the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team, Jeff Nibo led the Broncos to a 64-40 win at Kellogg Arena on Wednesday night to close out the non-conference schedule.
Nibo scored a game-high 18 points for the Broncos (4-1) who have now won three straight games in a row. Nibo added five rebounds and two steals on the night.
Antelope Valley jumped out on top early, building a 9-4 lead over CPP. The Broncos struggled to start, missing seven of their first nine shots before eventually tying the game 15-15.
Jordan Ogundiran finished with 14 points and added five assists while
William Christmas notched 13 points and collected eight boards to lead the time down low.
The Broncos edged Antelope Valley in rebounds, 37-35, and in turnovers, 20-25, while scoring 21 points off of Pioneer mistakes.
CPP built an eight-point lead heading into the break at 30-22, but another scoring slump kept the game close as Antelope Valley brought the game to within four points at 33-29.
A layup by Phoenix Shackelford, who finished with nine points, turned things around for the Broncos as they built a 54-35 lead with just over five minutes to go on the clock, sealing the victory.
The Broncos will continue their four-game homestand next weekend as they return to California Collegiate Athletic action on Friday, Dec. 1, welcoming in Chico State at 7 p.m.
