POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team got back on the winning side of things in a big way, downing the University of La Verne 88-45 on Tuesday night at Kellogg Arena.
Led by a dominating performance from
Chelsea Waddy-Blow, the Broncos improved to 2-3 overall on the season.
Waddy-Blow tallied her first double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
After a close start from both teams, CPP made their first breakaway midway through the first quarter, scoring 12 straight points to take a 19-7 advantage.
Also notching a double-double was
Priscilla Brooks who tallied 18 points and collected 12 rebounds on the night.
The Broncos held La Verne to 29 percent shooting from the field, including 6-for-24 mark from three-point range, while earning a shooting percentage of 51 percent, their highest of the season.
Down 18-points late in the first half, the Leopards fought back in the final minutes, closing the game to 40-29 heading into the break.
Casey McWilliam added 17 points while
Jordyn Shane finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Broncos secured the victory in the fourth quarter, giving up only six points in the period while scoring 32, earning their highest point total in a quarter this season.
CPP totaled 22 offense rebounds and scored 23 second-chance points to dominate the paint, winning the rebounding margin 48-30.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena on Saturday, Nov. 25, as they close out their non-conference schedule against Concordia University- Irvine and 2 p.m.
