Broncos Remain Perfect in CCAA with 66-50 Defeat of Humboldt

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team stayed perfect in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, defeating Humboldt State 66-50 on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A jumper in the opening minute made it 2-1 Broncos, CPP never trailed the Jacks for the rest of the night.
  • After a free throw in the opening seconds, CPP shutout Humboldt for nearly six minutes as they jumped out to an 11-1 lead.
  • CPP fell into a scoring slump of their own as the Jacks battled back to within one point before a 9-0 run brought the lead back to double digits as the Broncos closed out the half with a 36-25 advantage.
  • The Broncos shot 44 percent from the field including a 10-of-22 result from three-point range.
  • Humboldt State came to within seven points but couldn't find a way to stop the offense of the Broncos as they built their largest lead at 55-39.
  • CPP edged out the Jacks in rebounds and in turnovers, scoring 28 points off of HSU mistakes.
 
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • Jordan Ogundiran led the Broncos with an all-around game, registering a team-high 24 points along with six assists, six steals and seven rebounds.
  • Also scoring in double figures was William Christmas who tallied 14 points and led the Broncos in rebounds with nine.
  • Phoenix Shackelford added 11 points of his own making it his third game this season with 10 or more points as a true freshman.
 
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • The Broncos are now on a five-game win streak, and have gone 15-3 in regular season games dating back to last season.
  • CPP has held their opponents to 55 or less points on four occasions this season.
  • Ogundiran has scored 20-plus points in three games this season while Christmas has broken the double-digit mark in six of the seven games.
  • CPP avenged a 70-61 road loss against the Jacks last season.
