Broncos Struggle Offensively in 66-48 Loss to Humboldt

POMONA – Shooting woes plagued the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team on Saturday night as they fell to Humboldt State 66-48 at Kellogg Arena to finish the weekend with a split in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After trailing for a majority of the first quarter, Humboldt State stole an inbound pass with four seconds left and scored a layup to take a 16-15 lead, holding on to the lead for the remainder of the contest.
  • The Jacks added to their lead in the second quarter, which reached as high as eight points before taking a 25-19 lead into the break.
  • The Broncos held an edge in rebounds 44-41 over the Jacks while Humboldt State scored 11 second-chance points to CPP's five.
  • CPP brought the game to within three points midway through the third quarter but an 8-1 run by Humboldt gave the Jacks their first double-digit lead at 36-26.
  • The Broncos struggled offensively, shooting 22 percent from the field while Humboldt finished with a shooting percentage of 38 percent.
  • CPP cut the lead to single digits before a three-pointer by HSU sealed the victory for the visitors.

KEY PERFORMERS:
  • Priscilla Brooks led the Broncos, tallying a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds on the night.
  • Jordyn Shane tallied her second highest point total of the season with nine, adding six rebounds and a steal.
  • For Humboldt, three players scored in double-figures while Tyla Turner scored a game-high 23 points.
 
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Broncos who picked up their first CCAA win last night against Chico State. They move to 1-2 in conference play.
  • Brooks earned her third double-double of the season after finishing last season with a team-high of seven.
  • This was the first win for the Jacks over CPP since the 2012-13 season.
