Quick Start Lifts Broncos Over Dominguez Hills

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team made quick work of Cal State Dominguez Hills, jumping out to an early advantage before winning 78-66 on the road on Thursday night.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    The Broncos came out running, scoring the first 10 points of the game before leading 19-8 after the first quarter.
-    CPP shot 41 percent from the field while holding their opponents to a shooting percentage of 35 percent.
-    The Broncos outrebounded CSUDH 53-46, scoring 23 second-chance points.
-    CPP held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the second quarter before a 6-1 run by Dominguez Hills made it 33-26 at halftime.
-    The Toros brought the game to within three points before a tip-in by Jackie Ricketson broke the scoring drought as the Broncos held on to the lead for the entire game.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Chelsea Waddy-Blow led the Broncos in points scored with 15 while adding eight rebounds on the night.
-    Priscilla Brooks finished with 14 points and also grabbed eight rebounds
-    Also scoring in double figures was Jordyn Shane who finished with 12 points and Jackie Ricketson who tallied 11 points. Ricketson added seven rebounds and three assists.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The Broncos have now beaten Dominguez Hills in three straight contests, sweeping them in last year's meetings.
-    Strong starts have been key for the Broncos who have won each game which they lead after one-quarter of play.
-    The win gets the Broncos back on track after a conference loss to Humboldt State. CPP hasn't lost back-to-back conference games since the 2015-16 season.

The Broncos remain on the road as they continue conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 19, traveling to Cal State San Bernardino.
