ARCATA, Calif. – Led by
Alyssa Benton's career high 32 points, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team recorded their third straight win, defeating Humboldt State 68-44 in Lumberjack Arena on Saturday night.
Benton finished the night 10-of-13 from the field, tying the single game record for three-pointers made with eight.
The Broncos (13-9, 11-5 CCAA) got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 12-0 lead over the Lumberjacks (7-16, 6-10 CCAA), finishing the first quarter ahead 21-3.
Jackie Ricketson finished with nine points in the game while
Priscilla Brooks and
Chelsea Waddy-Blow finished with eight and six points respectively.
The Lumberjacks, led by Tyra Turner with nine points, tried to turn things around in the second quarter, outscoring the Broncos 19-10 to bring the lead to single-digits.
The Broncos put the game away in the third quarter, using a 13-4 run to pull away from Humboldt State for the remainder of the night.
CPP held the Lumberjacks to a field goal percentage of 28 percent while shooting 47 percent from the floor.
Waddy-Blow added a team high five rebounds while Ricketson and
Jordyn Shane tallied four assists each.
The Broncos return to action on the road next weekend as they faceoff with UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino.
