Broncos Earn 4-2 Victory Over CSU Monterey Bay

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona Baseball team found just enough offense on Thursday night, opening up the series against Cal State Monterey Bay with a 4-2 win at Scolinos Field.

Playing their final non-conference series of the year, the Broncos improved to 4-5 on the season while the Otters move to 5-3.

Ryan Alsworth picked up his first win of the season throwing three innings of relief pitching, allowing only two hits with four strikeouts. Starting on the mound today was Jeff Bain who finished with three hits, two earned runs and nine strikeouts through six innings.

CSUMB struck first, picking up a run in the third inning after an RBI single.

After that, the Broncos got things going in the fifth inning after a single by Kyle Candalla brought in Chris Stratton followed by a single by Cody Martin.

After the Otters tied the game in the sixth inning 2-2, the Broncos scored on back to back innings to hold on to the win. Candalla batted in Stratton again for his second RBI in the seventh while Daniel Pitts led off the eighth inning with a triple and was brought home after a sacrifice fly by Brennen McKenzie.
