POMONA, Calif. – Battling back from an early deficit, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team ran out of offense at the end, falling to Cal State Monterey Bay 7-6 in game two of the three game series at Scolinos Field on Saturday night.
With the series even at 1-1, the Broncos move to 4-6 on the season while the Otters improve to 6-3 overall.
Things started quickly for CSUMB who scored one run in the first inning before scoring four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Kyle Dohy started on the mound for the Broncos, going three full innings with five hits, six runs, five walks and six strikeouts.
After Monterey Bay added one more run in the third inning, the Broncos came alive, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Chris Stratton, back to back RBI doubles by
Nic Hernandez and
Cody Martin brought in the first runs for CPP followed by an RBI single by Brennen McKenzie to make it 6-3 in the fourth.
Pitching in relief for the Broncos were
Andre Henson and
Wyatt Shackleford. Henson allowed only one hit through three innings, a solo homer in the fourth while Shackleford finished with two hits and two strikeouts in three innings on the mound.
In the fifth inning, the Broncos put more pressure on the visitors as McKenzie knocked a ball into right field to bring home Martin and
Daniel Pitts, making it 7-5.
McKenzie finished two-for-three from the plate with three RBIs while Martin was three-for-four with three RBIs as well.
In the ninth, a single by Pitts put the go ahead run at the plate as Martin came around to score again. After that, the Broncos found themselves with the tying run at third after pinch runner
Sean Grebeck advance from first to third after an errored attempt at a pick off but the Broncos were unable to capitalize in the end.
The final game of the series is set for Sunday at Scolinos Field as both teams end non-conference play. First pitch is set for noon.
