POMONA, Calif. – Coming off an appearance in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Postseason Tournament, second year head coach
Jay Mason has released his first wave of recruits for the 2017 season, naming eight players from California and Washington.
"We have a very talented group of young ladies in our 2017 class," said Coach Mason. "They bring great athleticism, competitive drive, and the desire to improve as players and as people. I am very excited to add these great young women to our CPP Soccer Family."
The Broncos are coming off a 7-7-3 overall performance in the 2016 campaign while going 6-4-2 in the CCAA. Finishing fourth in the CCAA standings, the Broncos earned a home playoff spot but fell in the first round, losing 1-0 to Stanislaus State. CPP finished seventh in the NCAA Division II West Region rankings, just one spot out of the NCAA National Tournament.
With only four seniors departing after 2016, the newcomers will join a CPP squad that remains fairly intact and eager to make their next playoff run.
CLARISSA SANCHEZ | 5-5, Goalkeeper | Vanden High (Fairfield, Calif.) |
Club: Mustang ECNL
At Vanden High School, Sanchez earned Solano County Conference All-League Award and was named the Most Valuable Defender while leading her team to the school's only first-place finish.
As a junior, she also received the Scholar Athlete Academic Award.
From Coach Mason: "Clarissa brings a lot to the table. Her distribution is something that will allow us to transition very quickly. She has good hands, quick feet, and is fearless in protecting her goal and commanding her 18-yard box. I expect Clarissa to come in and compete with our talented group of GKs"
AMANDA FABER | 5-5, Defender | Tustin High (Tustin, Calif.)
Club: Albion OC
Faber received numerous MVP accolades while at Tustin High School while also being named First-Team All-League. A six-time Superintendent Honor Roll recipient, Faber was also a scholar-athlete.
From Coach Mason: "Amanda brings a competitive drive to succeed that will mesh with our hard working group here at CPP. She has a great tactical understanding of the game and has the ability to get forward with her pace and technical ability. I am looking forward to seeing Amanda get even better in green and yellow."
FIONA DOBYNS| 5-6, Defender | Troy High (Yorba Linda, Calif.)
Club: Albion OC
As a scholar-athlete for Troy High School, Dobyns was named Defensive MVP for her league while being selected to the First-Team All-League list. As captain, she was also dubbed the Defensive Player of the Year.
From Coach Mason: "Fiona brings pace, toughness, and a will to win to our program. She is great 1v1 defender with the ability and instincts to hurt teams in transition. I am looking forward to Fiona bringing her grit and ability to our CPP Bronco family"
EMELIE FLAIG | 5-7 Midfielder | Mira Costa High (Manhattan Beach, Calif.)
Club: Beach ECNL
Flaig is a four-year varsity soccer player at Mira Costa High School. In her senior season, she was chosen to lead the team on the field, taking on the role of captain. Flaig performed both on and off the field, being named to the Honor Roll list.
From Coach Mason: "Emelie's technical ability and tactical awareness allows her to play quicker than most players. She will be a great addition to our deep midfield core and will only raise our speed of play here at CPP"
ALLISON HUNG | 5-4 Midfielder | Arcadia High (Arcadia, Calif.)
Club: Slammers ECNL
At Arcadia High School, Hung earned the team captain designation and was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year.
From Coach Mason: "Allison comes from one of the best teams in the country. Her work rate is second to none! She has the technical ability to open up teams by herself and the unselfishness to make everyone around her better. I am excited to see Allison join our midfield and take it to the next level"
SAM PUTNAM | 5-9, Forward | Stadium High (Tacoma, Wash.)
Club: Washington Premier ECNL
While a four-year varsity starter at Stadium High, Putnam earned a number of accolades starting with Rookie of the Year her freshman season. While a junior, she was named an Offensive MVP and earned First-Team All-League. As team captain her senior year, she was once again named First-Team All-League and team MVP while also being selected a ODP Region IV which pulls the top 18 athletes.
Putnam's success didn't stop at the field as she was also a four-year Honor Roll recipient.
From Coach Mason: "Sam brings a great energy and physical presence to our team. Her confidence in front of goal and team first attitude will strengthen our forward line on both sides of the ball. I am looking forward to seeing Sam be an impact in her first season as a Bronco"
TAYLOR SCOTT | 5-7, Forward | Hart High (Santa Clarita, Calif.)
Scott thrived on the offensive side of the field while at Hart High, earning Offensive Player of the Year in 2014. After that, she was named a CIF Honorable Mention before being tabbed CIF First-Team her senior year.
From Coach Mason: "Taylor's pace and athletic ability will be a handful for anyone to contain. She has a competitive streak in her that will drive her teammates to push even harder. She has the tactical understanding and clinical finishing ability that will bring another dimension to our forward line. I am excited to see Taylor raise the level here at CPP"
ALLY LACARRA-PLATT | 5-5, Forward | Los Alamitos High (Los Alamitos, Calif.)
Club: Beach FC
LaCarra-Platt played three years of varsity soccer at Los Alamitos, earning Offensive Player of the Year in 2016. A two-time First-Team All-Sunset League, she was dubbed a 2017 OC Varsity Player of the Week and was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Excalibur Tournament.
LaCarra-Platt found just as much success off the field, maintaining at least a 4.0 throughout high schools while being a four-time Honor Roll recipient.
From Coach Mason: "Ally has the pace, athleticism, and drive to unbalance any back line. Her confidence 1v1 and competitive nature will bring another level to our press and attacking group. I am looking forward to seeing Ally in a Bronco uniform"
