Big Inning by CSUMB Lifts Otters to 5-3 Win Over CPP

POMONA, Calif. – A four-run fourth inning by Cal State Monterey Bay sunk the Broncos on Sunday afternoon, losing 5-3 at Scolinos Field to close out non-conference play for the season.
 
The Broncos drop the series to CSUMB 2-1, moving to 4-7 on the season while the Otters improve to 7-3.
 
CPP struck first in their opening inning at the plate as Brennan McKenzie registered his ninth RBI of the season, bringing in Cody Martin to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Henry Omana started on the mound for the Broncos, throwing 4 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs and five hits with six strikeouts. In total, the CPP pitched seven scoreless innings with the damage coming in the fourth and ninth innings.
 
The Broncos added two more runs in the seventh inning, thanks to Chris Stratton's effort at the plate, connecting on a ball deep to right field for a two-RBI triple to come within one run, 4-3.
 
The Broncos will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Thursday with a four game series against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Games one and two will be played away on Thursday and Friday before finishing the series at Scolinos Field with a double-header on Homecoming.
