POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team secured another game at Kellogg Arena on Thursday night, defeating San Francisco State in decisive fashion 55-41 to clinch a home playoff game in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
Chelsea Waddy-Blow and
Jordyn Shane led the Broncos (15-10, 13-6 CCAA) scoring 14 points apiece while
Priscilla Brooks finished with 12 points and a team high nine rebounds.
The Broncos jumped ahead early on in the game, reaching a 10-point lead, 16-6 at the end of the first quarter.
CPP continued their strong defensive performance, holding the Gators to 27 percent shooting from the field, reaching the free throw line on only 13 occasions.
For the Broncos, they shot 36 percent in the game, connecting on 15-of-20 free throws.
Shane added seven rebounds on the night while
Jackie Ricketson tallied six points and two steals.
San Francisco State didn't role over however, outscoring the Broncos 15-10 in the third quarter, cutting the lead only six points, 36-30.
With a four-point advantage in the fourth quarter, the Broncos used an 8-0 run to pull away from the visitors for the rest of the game, reaching their largest lead of the night at 15-points in the final quarter.
CPP will close out the regular season on Saturday, welcoming in Sonoma State, and will begin postseason play at home against either the sixth of seventh seed in the tournament.
