POMONA Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team concluded the regular season with a strong performance, downing Sonoma State 49-45 in a physical matchup on Homecoming night in Kellogg Arena.
With the win, the Broncos end the regular season at 16-10 overall, going 14-6 in the CCAA to earn the third seed in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament scheduled to begin next Tuesday.
In a game that was a battle from the beginning, neither team could break away from the other. Saturday's contest featured seven lead changes with the largest lead being eight points, belonging to Sonoma State in the third quarter.
Priscilla Brooks was a force for the Broncos leading both squads in points with 15, and in rebounds with 10, completing her seventh double-double of the season.
Following her was
Chelsea Waddy-Blow with 12 points and five rebounds while
Jordan Kimbrough finished with five points and eight rebounds.
Down 33-25 entering the fourth quarter, the Broncos fought back, scoring nine straight points to start the quarter and take back the lead.
The Broncos will host Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the opening round on the CCAA Postseason Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Kellogg Arena.
