Broncos Complete Series Sweep, Win Game Four in Walkoff Fashion

POMONA Calif. – Homecoming started off strong for the Broncos as the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team concluded a four-game series against Cal State Dominguez Hills, winning the final two games on Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep.

The Broncos improve to 8-7 overall and start off California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a 4-0 record.

Game One: W, 7-4

Nic Hernandez led the way at the plate for the Broncos, recording two hits and two RBIs.

After falling behind early, CPP scored two runs in the second inning to jump ahead 2-1. They added to their lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs.

Kyle Dohy got the start in game one of the double-header, going six full innings with only four hits, one earned run and three strikeouts.

The Toros made some noise in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to make it 5-4, but the Broncos quickly answered, scoring two more in the same inning thanks to a double by Hernandez and a RBI single by Jason Padlo.

Game Two: W, 5-4 (8 innings)

Hernandez continued to have a big performance in game two, registering three hits including the walk-off hit in extra innings.

After the Toros fought back to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning, Kyle Candalla hit a two-out triple in the eighth, setting up Hernandez's one RBI and giving the Broncos the series sweep.

Henry Omona started on the bump for CPP, throwing six innings with only three hits and nine strikeouts.

The Broncos return to Scolinos Field on Thursday as they begin another CCAA four-game series, this time against Cal State San Bernardino.
