POMONA Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team closed out the second half of California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a 9-2 record, ending the regular season on Homecoming night with a 54-51 win over Sonoma State in Kellogg Arena on Saturday.
The Broncos (12-12, 10-10 CCAA) will head into the playoffs as the sixth seed in the tournament and will travel for a rematch with third-seed Sonoma State on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Jordan Ogundiran led both squads with 18 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the three-point line. Following him was
Justin Young with eight points and
Chris Sullivan with six points and a team high seven rebounds.
The first half was all Broncos as they took an 11-point lead before finishing the first period up 29-19, shooting 56 percent in the half.
The Seawolves climbed back into the game, making it a one-point game 49-48 with 36 seconds left on the clock.
William Christmas answered with two free throws followed by two more by Sullivan as the Broncos closed out the last minute of the game at 6-of-8 from the free throw line to seal the win.
