POMONA, Calif. – In one of their biggest matchups of the regular season, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team travels north this weekend for a three-game series against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) favorite Chico State, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Broncos currently sit in second place in the CCAA standings with a conference record of 9-3, going 13-10 overall on the season.
Last Week: After taking the first two games against CSU Los Angeles, the Broncos split their four-game series dropping the final two games on the road.
Highlights: After picking up his third straight win, CPP pitcher
Jeff Bain was selected as the conference Pitcher of the Week as well as the West Region Pitcher of the Week. Bain threw seven scoreless innings against CSULA with only four hits and seven strikeouts.
Also performing well on the mound was reliever
Ryan Alsworth who's given up only two hits in his last five innings of relief, allowing zero runs to bring his season ERA to 3.05.
At the plate for the Broncos, freshman
Brennan McKenzie leads the team with 20 RBIs which ranks as the eighth-most in the league. McKenzie is batting .347 on the year with five doubles and two home runs.
Jason Padlo holds the top batting average at .431. second highest in the CCAA while
Chris Stratton's 27 runs is a league best.
Tied for ninth in the latest NCAA West Region rankings, the Broncos will take their first break from South Division play after winning the first two series before tying with CSULA.

-Entering the weekend on a 12-game win streak, the Wildcats are perfect in CCAA action at 12-0, going 19-4 on the season.
-Chico was selected as the regular-season favorite in the Preseason Coaches poll.
-Pitching has been dominant for the Wildcats who lead the CCAA with a team ERA of 2.22.
-CSUC has tallied six shutouts this season, four of them coming against CCAA opponents.
-Chico has three pitchers in the top 10 in ERA in the conference with Casey Costello leading the way with an ERA of .34 through 26.1 innings.
