SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team ended the four-game series against Cal State San Bernardino with two wins on Saturday afternoon, winning 7-3 and 3-2 to take the series three games to one.
The Broncos have won their first two series in California Collegiate Athletic Association action, improving to 11-8 overall and 7-1 in the CCAA.
Game One: CPP 7, CSUSB 3
Daniel Pitts started things off for the Broncos in the top of the second inning, hitting a solo homerun to center field for his first of the year.
With a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning,
Brennan McKenzie tallied CPP's second homer of the day, this time a two-run blast to left center to give the Broncos a 4-1 lead
CPP secured the win in the sixth inning, scoring three runs after RBI singles by
Bryce Graddy,
Jacob Bernardy and
Chris Stratton.
Kyle Dohy earned his third win of the season, throwing six innings with three hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
Stratton and McKenzie finished with three hits apiece to lead the Broncos at the plate.
Game Two: CPP 3, CSUSB 2
Henry Omana picked up his first win of the season on the mound in game two for the Broncos, allowing six hits in seven inning with only one earned run and four strikeouts.
The Coyotes jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the second inning to lead 2-1.
Nic Hernandez tied things up in the fourth inning with a solo shot to right field for his third homerun this season.
The Broncos scored the winning run in the eighth inning after
Cody Martin singled past the shortstop to bring in Stratton for the victory.
Matt Manskar and Martin ended with three hits each while
Kyle Candalla finished with two hits and a stolen base.
The Broncos return to Scolinos Field next Thursday for game one of a four-game series against CCAA South Division opponent Cal State Los Angeles.
