POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team will travel this weekend as they play their final series against a CCAA North Division opponent at Sonoma State for a three-game series starting on Saturday.
The Broncos finished a four-game sweep of Cal State San Marcos over the weekend, improving to 25-18 and 21-11 in conference play. Game one's score of 28-12 set a new school record for runs scored in a single game for CPP.
Last weekend's offensive performance have shot the Broncos to the top of many of the team statistical categories as they are first in hits (469), runs scored (283) and RBIs (251). The Broncos also hold four of the top six individual totals in hits.
Chris Stratton is third on the hits list with 59 and also leads in runs scored with 47. Following him is
Jason Padlo in fourth (56),
Daniel Pitts in fifth (54) and
Cody Martin in sixth (54). Padlo has also moved to third on the conference batting average list, holding a mark of .409 from the plate.
On the mound,
Henry Omana picked up another win against CSUSM, lowing his ERA to a team-best 2.78. He is also second in strikeouts with 74, only trailing teammate
Jeff Bain with 74. With a win in game two of the series, Bain has improved to 6-2 overall this year, leading CPP in wins.
About Sonoma State:
-The Seawolves sit towards the bottom of the pack in the CCAA North standings, owning a record of 20-18 overall and 16-16 in the CCAA.
-Sonoma is 3-5 in their last two series, splitting the series at home against CSU East Bay.
-SSU is eighth in the conference in batting average with a team mark of .282 while ranking fourth in ERA at 3.97.
-The Seawolves are one of the lower scoring teams in the CCAA, ranking 10
th in runs scored at 200.
-In their last matchup with the Broncos, Sonoma State won the series 2-1 in the regular season.
