ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Completing their second straight series sweep and winning their eighth game in a row, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team defeated Sonoma State in game three 9-1 at Seawolf Diamond on Sunday afternoon.
With one series remaining in the regular season, the Broncos are first in the CCAA South Division holding a record of 28-18 overall and 24-11 in conference play.
Kyle Dohy started on the mound for CPP, throwing six scoreless innings while giving up only three hits with four walks. With the win, Dohy improves to 6-2 on the season.
The Broncos scored early as
Bryce Graddy singled to center field in the second inning, scoring
Jason Padlo to take a 1-0 lead.
Cody Martin added to the lead in the third, hitting a solo homerun to right field.
Padlo led the team in hits with three while Martin,
Daniel Pitts and
Frankie Nogales each tallied two hits.
CPP doubled their lead again in the fourth inning as Nogales and
Jacob Bernardy each recorded a double, giving the Broncos a 4-0 lead in the series finale.
The Broncos had their biggest inning the fifth, scoring four runs led by a two-RBI double by Nogales for this third RBI of the day.
CPP will return to Scolinos Field next Friday as they close out the regular season against San Francisco State.
