POMONA, Calif. – Despite a rocky couple of weeks for the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team, the Broncos still sit in the top tier of the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings, and in second-place in the South Division. CPP returns home this weekend as they welcome in Cal State East Bay for a three game series beginning Saturday.

The Broncos (16-16, 12-9 CCAA), coming off a three game road series with Cal State Monterey Bay, dropped the first two games, but avoided the sweep with an 11-8 victory to close out the series.

Batting has been a strong point for the Broncos so far this season, ranking fourth in the league with an overall batting average of .295. Leading the way at the plate is senior outfielder
Daniel Pitts who tops CPP in home runs (five), hits (41) and RBIs (25), and is second in BA at .363.

Jason Padlo holds the top batting average at .379,
Brennan McKenzie is second in RBIs with 24 and
Chris Stratton leads the team in runs scored at 30 and stolen bases with 12.

Despite the success at the plate, the Broncos have struggled in the field, owning a fielding percentage of .953 (10
th lowest in the CCAA).

Pitching is another area that has been up and down this season with the Broncos ranking ninth in team ERA at 4.46. CPP leads the conference in strikeouts with 228 as three players rank in the top five in total strikeouts.
Henry Omana is third in the CCAA with 54 total strikeouts followed by
Kyle Dohy (50) in fourth and
Jeff Bain (49) in fifth.

Omana picked up his second win of the season last weekend, dropping his ERA to 3.38 while Bain, Dohy and
Peter Beattie lead the team with three wins each.

About Cal State East Bay:
-At 20-10 overall and 11-7 in the CCAA, Cal State East Bay is third in the North Division standings.
-The Pioneers are the top hitting team in the conference with a BA of .300.
-CSUEB ranks in the middle of the pack in ERA at 4.11 and have totaled the fewest strikeouts at 164.
-The Pioneers rank fifth in runs scored (187) and fifth in RBIs (150).
-In their last regular season matchup with the Broncos, CSUEB was swept by CPP in the three game series.
