POMONA, Calif. -
Jason Bernard, a member of the Cal Poly Pomona Class of 2000 and former men's soccer player, was named a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for athletics for 2017. Bernard received his award at the Distinguished Alumni Awards banquet on Friday, April 28 at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel and Convention Center.

"The opportunity to recognize and honor Jason Bernard as a Cal Poly Pomona Distinguished Alumnus is truly fitting for the support he has given over the years," stated Brian Swanson, Director of Athletics for the Broncos.  "He has generously given his time, talent and treasures by being involved on a search and screen committee, playing in the annual alumni soccer game and supporting soccer scholarships and operations budgets.   We are glad Jason is on our team and a member of our Broncos family."

Bernard earned a bachelor's in history in 2000 and is manager of Progressive Orthopedic Solutions in Sante Fe Springs, which distributes orthopedic products in California and several other states. His philanthropy extends beyond his alma mater as the company closes its doors twice a year to feed military veterans and the homeless.

"Giving back is important to me," says Bernard. "Mostly because I feel Cal Poly Pomona gave me my opportunity. Because of this, I want to give as much back as I can."

Bernard lives in Fullerton with his wife, Jennifer, and their three children, Ava, 10, Lincoln, 8, and Londyn, 4.

The Distinguished Alumni Awards Program is presented jointly by the university and the Alumni Association. Each college and the athletic department honor one alumnus each year for having achieved prominence in their chosen fields of endeavor and have brought distinction to the university and the community through their accomplishments.
