POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona baseball honored seven seniors before closing out the regular season with an 8-4 win over San Francisco State, extending their win streak to 11 games on Saturday afternoon at Scolinos field.
The seven players closing out their career at CPP were RHP
Henry Omana, outfielder
Alex Gaskin, infielder
Chris Stratton, DH
Frankie Nogales, LHP
Matthew Grier, outfielder
Daniel Pitts and infielder
Jason Padlo.
The Broncos jumped ahead early, scoring four runs as they looked for their third consecutive series sweep. Padlo doubled to score
Cody Martin for the first run followed by an RBI single by
Nic Hernandez and a sacrifice fly by
Frankie Nogales.
Omana started on the mound for CPP, throwing three scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Coming on in relief was Taylor Jeremy who tossed five innings with two strikeouts, seven hits and three runs.
Pitts added another run for CPP in the fifth inning, singling to score Stratton. In the very next inning, Stratton hit a sacrifice fly to right field, sending Gaskin home. Sealing the victory for the Broncos, Padlo added two more runs to finish with three RBIs, singling up the middle to score
Kyle Candalla and
Bryce Graddy.
Closing out the game was Grier, who allowed one hit in one inning of work.
The Broncos will travel to Stockton, Calif., next week as they prepare for the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship set to begin on Wednesday.
