SALT LAKE CITY – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team got off to an excellent start on Thursday evening, defeating Westminster 2-0 on the road in their 2017 season opener.
The Broncos dominated offensively, outshooting the hosts 12-7 with seven shots nine shots on goal compared to four.
Senior
Daisy Duran opened the scoring in the first half after receiving a ball from
Samantha Putnam, scoring the first goal of the season just 18 minutes into the game. D. Duran led her squad with four total shots, landing three on target.
CPP held Westminster to only three shots in the first half while giving up only two corner kicks in the game.
The Broncos secured their victory with another goal in the final five minutes of play as
Amanda Duran slid the ball passed the keeper and some assistance from
Stephanie Rodriguez.
A senior in goal for CPP,
Ricki Ives recorded her first shutout of the season, tallying four saves to keep her team in control throughout the night.
The Broncos continue play in Salt Lake City as they take on Davenport University tomorrow at 11 a.m. MT.
