Broncos Swept in First CCAA Contest of the Season

ROHNERT PARK The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team dropped a three-set match (25-16, 25-21, 25-8) on Friday night against Sonoma State to open up the 2017 conference season.

The Broncos (4-5, 0-1 CCAA) had a difficult time offensively, finishing the night with a .035 hitting percentage against the Seawolves (7-3, 1-0 CCAA).

Andrea Bosnic notched a team-high 11 kills while Alexandra Gresham and Ally Wilder both finished with seven kills each.

After falling in the first set 25-16, the Broncos had one of their best sets of the night, fighting from behind to take a 12-11 lead over Sonoma State. The Broncos once again bounced back later in the set but were unable to close out as the Seawolves scored the final three points.

Samantha Figueroa led the backline with 17 digs while Alina Smith and Kay Powell shared the duties at setter, finishing with 15 and 11 assists respectively.

The Broncos continue CCAA action tomorrow night as they face off against San Francisco State at 7 p.m. on the road.
