Broncos Rally for a Four Set Win Over Cal State East Bay

POMONA – After dropping the opening set, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team rallied to take three straight sets, defeating Cal State East Bay 3-1 (26-28, 25-17, 25-13, and 25-20) at Kellogg Arena on Saturday night.

The win is the first at home for the Broncos (6-6, 2-2 CCAA) who spend the first 10 matches of the season on the road.

The Broncos had one of their most efficient nights on offense, posting a team hitting percentage of .302 while holding the Pioneers to .154.

Andrea Bosnic tallied a match high 19 kills with a .359 hitting percentage along with 13 digs. Following her was Jenna Goldsberry with 10 kills and Ally Wilder with nine kills.

The Broncos opened the second set scoring the first four points before taking a 12-6 lead. CPP tied the match, scoring the final six points of the second set to win 25-17.

Alina Smith and Kay Powell orchestrated the offense for CPP, collecting 29 and 25 assists respectively.

CPP got off to an even stronger start in set number three, scoring the opening seven points to lead 14-3. Unable to surpass the early deficit, the Pioneers fell behind 2-1 in the match.

Alexandria Bollier totaled 24 digs to earn a match high while Samantha Figueroa finished the night with 10 digs.

Behind 2-0 to start the fifth set, the Broncos fought to gain a 4-3 lead early and held on to that lead for the remainder of the set to clinch the victory.

The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena next weekend as they host Cal State San Marcos on Friday, Sept. 29 and UC San Diego on Sept. 30.
