Tomlinson Leads Broncos in 1-0 Victory Over the Otters

POMONA – Led by a second half goal from Kalin Tomlinson, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team finished a perfect 2-0 on the weekend as they defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 1-0 at Kellogg Field on Sunday afternoon.

Taking a pass up the middle of the field from Tasha Inong, Tomlinson trapped the ball in the box before sending the ball on a soft touch under the keeper for her first goal of the season.

"Sunday games are always a battle and today we were able to find a way to get the result despite being outplayed," said head coach Jay Mason. "I'm proud of how the group dealt with the adversity of not playing well which I believe is a sign of a good team."

With the win, the Broncos improve to 7-1-1 overall on the year and 3-0-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

A foul outside the box set the Broncos up for a promising free kick in the first half of play. Natalie Di Angelo set to take the attempt, bouncing the ball off the crossbar to keep the game scoreless in the first half.

"Credit CSUMB, they are well coached and brought a great deal of energy and commitment to the game today."

The Otters outshot CPP 12 shots to seven but couldn't convert as goalie Ricki Ives finished with six saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

"This week we need to get our mentality realigned and our sights set on a great weekend in San Diego."

The Broncos will prepare for their first conference road games next week, traveling to UC San Diego on Friday and Cal State San Marcos on Sunday.
