Broncos Fall to No. 7 UCSD 1-0

LA JOLLA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team received their first California Collegiate Athletic Association loss on Friday as they fell to No. 7 UC San Diego 1-0 on the road on Friday.

The Broncos (7-2-1, 3-1-1 CCAA) fought closely with one of the top teams in the country throughout the night with the Tritons only score coming in the 66th minute.

"I didn't think we played our best game today and when you do that against the top team in the conference you're going to find yourself on the wrong end of the result," said Head Coach Jay Mason.

UCSD finished with 14 total shots while the Broncos tallied four with two shots on the goal in the contest.

CPP's keeper Ricki Ives kept her team in the game, recording five saves on the night.

"I was proud of our kids fight and work rate, we just lacked a bit of confidence in moments today. Credit UCSD, they have a deep and talented group that will cause any team problems on the attacking end."

In the 83rd minute, Daisy Duran sent a corner into the box that found Alison Kung who just missed the equalizer, hitting the ball off the post.

"I hope the loss today brings our team closer to where we need to be to compete at the top of this conference."

The Broncos return to action on Sunday as they face off against Cal State San Marcos at 11 a.m. on the road.
