LA JOLLA – The 17
th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team was unable to hang on to a lead as they fell to UC San Diego 2-1 in overtime on the road on Friday night.
The loss drops the Broncos to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Both teams pressured the opposing goalie throughout the night as CPP totaled 10 shots to UCSD's 12.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Broncos opened up the scoring in the 62
nd minute as
Sergi Monso scored his 13
th goal of the season, curving a free kick from the top of the box into the upper right corner.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Tritons tied the match 1-1 after Jonathan Sabouri trapped the ball from a saved shot attempt before finishing close range. His scoring continued in overtime as he headed a ball in the 95
th minute off a free kick to give his team the win.
The Broncos return to conference play on Sunday as they travel to Cal State San Marcos for a 2 p.m. matchup.
