Second-Place Broncos Earn 65-61 Win Over Dominguez Hills

POMONA – POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team got back on the winning side of things as they defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 65-61 at Kellogg Arena on Thursday night.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    The first quarter started out strong for the Toros as they built a nine-point lead midway through.
-     CPP settled down, scoring the final nine points of the half to tie the game at 15-15 heading into the second quarter.
-    Teams continued to trade points before a last-second shot by Priscilla Brooks gave the Broncos a 31-29 advantage heading into the break.
-    CPP edged out Dominguez Hills in shooting percentage 36 percent to 34 percent and scored 24 points off the bench.
-    The Broncos took their first double-digit lead in the third quarter as the teams continued to battle to a score of 53-47 in favor of CPP.
-    CPP out-rebounded the Toros 45-39 and tallied 36 points in the paint in the process.
-    Holding a one-point lead 58-57, the Broncos scored seven straight points to seal the victory over Dominguez Hills.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Chelsea Waddy-Blow led the Broncos offensively, tallying 15 points while grabbing six rebounds in the process. Waddy-Blow finished 5-for-13 from the field while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
-    Jackie Ricketson finished with 12 points, three assists, and three steals while Jordyn Shane also finished in double figures with 10 points.
-    Brooks led the Broncos down low, grabbing eight rebounds. 

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The Broncos bounced back with Thursday's win, holding on to their second-place spot in the CCAA standings.
-    With the win, the Broncos complete the regular season sweep of Dominguez Hills after earning a road win earlier in the season.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos remain at Kellogg Arena on Saturday, Jan. 20 as they welcome in Cal State Los Angeles for the first time this season.
