First-Place Broncos Head North to Cal State East Bay and Monterey Bay

Pomona – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team looks to keep hold of first-place as they travel to Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

Last Week: The Broncos (14-3, 11-2 CCAA) won both of their games comfortably last week, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills 65-58 and Cal State L.A. 69-55. Quentin Taylor went 6-for-9 from the field against the Toros to score 15 points. William Christmas dominated Cal State L.A., recording a double-double with 25 points and 12 boards. 
 
By the Numbers: The Broncos are the number one scoring defense in the conference, holding teams to an average of 61.1 points a game. Teams are shooting 36 percent from the floor and just over 30 percent from beyond the arc. Jordan Ogundiran leads the team in scoring and assists, averaging 15.1 points per game and 4.5 assists per game which ranks fifth and third respectively in the CCAA. Christmas leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds a game which ranks fifth in the CCAA. In their previous meeting against the Pioneers, the Broncos won 59-51 at home. The game remained close for much of the night until the Broncos pulled away late in the fourth quarter. Against the Otters, the Broncos won 72-57 in a collective effort as four Broncos scored double-digit points.
 
Pioneer Report: East Bay (8-12, 4-10 CCAA) comes in on a four-game losing streak. They average 73 points a game on 43 percent shooting. East Bay allows the second highest shooting percentage from beyond the arc in the CCAA at 38 percent. They are tough on the boards as they average the third highest rebounds per game and allow the second-fewest rebound per game in the conference. Drew Bender leads the offense in scoring with 12.1 points a game.
 
Otter Report: Monterey Bay (4-14, 3-11 CCAA) is having a season to forget as they are on an eight-game losing streak. As a team, they rank 10th in the league in scoring with 70 points a game. They are the second most efficient team from beyond the arc in the conference at 37 percent. Jahvon Johnson leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points a game.
